The Alden Township Land Use Plan Map from the pending McHenry County 2030 Plan is scheduled to be discussed by the Regional Planning Commission. It has been said that this is a critical meeting for those concerned about Alden Township to attend. Supporting documents from the McHenry County 2030 Plan website can be found here.

The Commission meets the first Wednesday of each month. The meetings are open to the public, and are run on a fairly informal basis so as to promote meaningful discussion. Alden Road/Bridge project to be discussed at the 9/2 meeting.

McHenry County has a new website: mchenrycountyil.gov. It launched on August 18, 2009 and takes the place of their old URL, www.co.mchenry.il.us.
Although the old URL does still work, the directory structure of the site has been changed, so none of the old links work. I wanted visitors here to be aware of this, as I had a number of documents linked to this site that now no longer work. I will fix this when and if I can (some things, such as the Alden Road PDF exhibits on the MCDOT site are simply gone now).
If you do come across a link that’s not working on this site, it would be great if you could send me a message at melinda@aldenroadalliance.org.
Update: on August 30, I went through the site and updated links where I could. I believe I caught everything, but if you find something not working, please let me know at the email address listed above. Thanks!

Since last week’s County Board meeting, during which MCDOT agreed to re-examine Phase I Engineering on the Alden Road project, I’ve had a number of residents ask, “What happens next?”
While MCDOTs decision appears to be a step in the right direction, we have no plans to stop what we’re doing or go dormant at this time. During the months that MCDOT needs to “go back to their toolbox” on this, we will keep working behind the scenes to ensure that we are mobilized and ready to go when a revised Alden Road plan is revealed.
We have spent a great deal of our time and resources so far being reactive as information came to light or changed, and so now is a perfect time for us to be proactive about things.
You can expect regular, continued updates of things we are doing and working on, and any other news we hear pertaining to the project.

Kevin Craver, Senior Reporter for the Northwest Herald has written another article about Alden Road that appears in the August 19, 2009 edition of the paper. When I checked the online edition this morning, it appeared as one of the top news stories. You can read the article online here, and comment if you wish.
We thank Kevin for his continued attention to this issue. We also thank MCDOT for hearing resident concerns and stating a recognized need to re-evaluate their current plans for Alden Road at last night’s County Board meeting. Sincere thanks also goes to the County Board for their attentiveness to the issue over these past weeks, and for posing some excellent questions to MCDOT. A transcript of the portion of last night’s County Board meeting pertaining to Alden Road will follow on this website.
